RHKYC has a new addition to it's collection of classes, outrigger canoes. When racing, the Royal Hong Kong Outriggers join teams based in Deep Water Bay, Stanley, Lamma and Lantau. Locally, the first of Hong Kong sea sports clubs to form an outrigger section was the Hong Kong Island Paddle Club based out of the VRC in Deep Water Bay in 1994. South China Outriggers based in Sai Kung and Hong Kong Outrigger Canoe Club based in Stanley were both formed from paddlers who originally with HKIPC.
The Royal Hong Kong Outriggers run training sessions at Middle Island and actively seek new members. Although the outrigger class of boats have a seperate mission statement and safety guidelines, formally it is part of the RHKYC Rowing Section, benefiting from synergies with oar sports.
We are building up a separate list of active and interested paddlers, so please contact us at outrigger@rhkyc.org.hk. To sign up to the online information and roster system (via TeamSnap), please follow this link - http://rhkycoutrigger.teamsnap.com/ .
The Club is also keen to find any Juniors (12-18 years old) who want to try something new and be part of a squad to learn how to paddle and then train for local events. Please contact us at outrigger@rhkyc.org.hk.
